News 8/11/02

'Peder's Grapes' is a story of mine that has been published in an anthology called Forked Tongues, 2002. This is available from Wakefield Press. Other authors in the book include students in higher degrees in the University of Adelaide.

The exciting new is that Re-entry, Jihad and another novel called Cameleer will be published in early 2003 by Lothian Books as a trilogy called Borderland.Borderland is Jamie Richards' journey into a new world: her own western culture.

Wolfchild is another new title for 2003.

Inspired by the lost land of Lyonnese, Wolfchild is a story of affirmation. It tells of Raw and his struggle to accept himself and of Morwenna who teaches him to care.

Wolfchild is set in 1099 on the land of Lyonnesse before it drowned, and is based on the Cornish legend of Lord Trevelyan on his white horse being the last man alive to reach the Cornish shore.

Even today the coat of arms for the Trevelyan family has a white horse rising up out of the sea.

 Yardil

The long awaited picture book called Yardil will arrive sometime in 2003. Award winning Elizabeth Stanley is doing the illustrations.

Yardil is the story of Shazia who lives in a Kalash mountain village in Chitral, Pakistan. There is one thing Shazia wants more than anything: a snow leopard.

The launches of Zenna Dare were a great success.

At the Writers' Centre, Jeanette Wormald sang 'Acres Of blue, and Walk Beside Me – two songs pertinent to the themes of Zenna Dare. [for photo of jeanette Wormald]
